With the festive season just around the corner, I can practically smell the gingerbread cookies…
1 bottle red wine
¼ litre good-quality, freshly squeezed orange juice
¼ litre water
Honey according to taste (about 100–150 g)
1 vanilla pod, cut open lengthwise
1 star anise
2 cinnamon sticks
Peel from an organic orange
1 organic lemon, sliced
Add the vanilla pod, star anise, cloves, cinnamon stick, orange peel and lemon slices to the red wine and water, and allow to infuse for 1 hour. Don’t let the water boil, but it should be quite hot. Strain out the spices and add the honey and orange juice. Serve with dried fruit, nuts or Christmas biscuits.
If you would like a stronger version, you can replace some of the water with rum. Enjoy the mulled wine!
